Island 16 Cinema

Lights, camera, architecture: This rethinking of the multiplex movie theater used light to create changing moods for interior and exterior spaces. A dual image projection in the interior of the lobby is an homage to the drive-in. The theme continues with fun furnishings and signs. Large photographic murals depicting the natural beach environment of Long Island’s South Shore decorate the walls. The proposal included exterior lighting and projections to engage passing cars in order to break down the inward focus typical of big box structures.
